The Green Bay Packers haven't done well in free agency, at least so far. They lost key running back AJ Dillon in free agency, and in the meantime, they have watched multiple pass rushers, including Josh Sweat and Azeez Ojulari, join other teams instead of signing with them to upgrade their defense up front.
Dillon decided to head over to the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, where he will play behind 2024 Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley.
He took to Instagram on Monday to thank Packers fans for an "unforgettable" five seasons with Wisconsin's most beloved pro sports franchise.
Dillon was a second-round selection by Green Bay in the 2020 NFL Draft after he spent three stellar seasons at Boston College. In his first four years with Green Bay, he formed a solid tag-team duo at the running back position along with Aaron Jones.
Jones left last offseason to join the NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings, and while Dillon was supposed to back up Josh Jacobs in 2024, he played in nary a game due to a neck injury.
In Philly, he can help preserve Barkley, who was a workhorse last season and became just the ninth player to rush for at least 2,000 yards in a single season. He took 345 carries in 2024, and now that he's 28 years of age, it may be time for the team to limit his workload in order to keep him fresh for the playoffs.
