Isaiah Horton feels it is a scary sight watching Alabama freshman, Lotzeir Brooks, get comfortable within the Crimson Tide’s offense.
Brooks has made the most of his opportunities early in his true freshman campaign. He is averaging 16 yards per grab and has pulled in eight receptions for 128 yards through four games. This small sample size of production, along with the quick-twitch speed and athleticism Brooks has shown early on, is why Horton believes the freshman can add another element to the Alabama receiving core.
“He just brings speed, his explosiveness,” Horton told reporters after practice on Tuesday. “He’s getting more and more comfortable, and that’s a scary sight.”
Alabama’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is also high on the New Jersey native’s potential in the Crimson Tide offense after seeing flashes from Brooks throughout the offseason and the first quarter of the season.
“You want to give touches to the right guys, and Lotzeir is a guy who is a missed tackle-forced machine,” Grubb said. “That’s one of the things we look at every week, ‘who are the guys getting touches, and who are the guys breaking tackles? Because when it’s not perfect you need a guy who is going to somehow make the play for you… Lotty, since the day I’ve seen him running around out here (in practice), he’s definitely a guy with the knack to make tacklers miss. He’s got good ball security, he plays through contact, he does not expect to be tackled. He’s more powerful than people anticipate, and he’s a really sudden guy.”
Look out for Brooks to continue to make an impact for the Crimson Tide.
