Kyle Pitts trade rumors are running rampant, but Falcons fans should temper expectations of anything coming to fruition anytime soon, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
“Eddie, I’m just not sure I see a match right now,” Breer responded to a question of whether the Falcons would trade Pitts. “This seems to me like the sort of story that only gains steam in June.”
Kyle Pitts hasn’t reached the levels of success he experienced as a rookie in the three seasons since, and entering the final year of his contract, the Falcons are right to take calls on him. However, just as he’s lost value in Atlanta, he’s lost value around the league too, Breer continued.
“So he’s no longer valued like he was by anyone as he had been before the 2021 draft. And now he’s playing on a $10.88 million fifth-year option. This means another team would have to have a pretty high level of confidence it could get more out of him than the Falcons (he had 47 catches for 602 yards and four touchdowns last year),” Breer added.
So, not only does an acquiring team have to be confident that Kyle Pitts will prove his worth in terms of the draft compensation, but also his nearly $11 million price tag, which is why Breer doesn’t see it as possible.
“It’s unlikely, as I see it, that such a team would be willing to give up the kind of pick that would entice Atlanta to deal him and pay him almost $11 million,” Breer finished. “At this point, the discussion probably isn’t worth the oxygen people are giving it.”
