Amon Ra St. Brown is going to be one of the more difficult players to rank this season for Fantasy Football. He’s a phenomenal player, lighting up defenses since he was drafted from USC. His team, the Detroit Lions, has made some big changes with their coaching staff in the offseason, though. St. Brown will almost certainly finish as a top-ten wide receiver this year, but where in the top ten?
Amon Ra St. Brown had an extremely high floor in 2024. There were only two games where he didn’t put up double-digit fantasy points. He also broke above 35 fantasy points twice: once in the shootout against Buffalo and again when he played Jacksonville. St. Brown was able to score fairly frequently, scoring twelve touchdowns on the season.
The only issue with his performance was that his yardage didn’t always stack up to what his expectations might have been. St. Brown hit above 100 yards four times last season, but outside of those games, he mostly got between 60 and 70 yards. Keep in mind, that’s a great season for most wide receivers; it might just not compare well to the rest of the top ten.
St. Brown should be projected to have a great year, but there are several factors that will affect his numbers. First of all, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s leaving will have an effect on Detroit’s offense; it may not be a huge effect, but they will be worse off without him than with him. Second of all, the reports out of training camp say that Detroit wants Jameson Williams to be a bigger part of this offense.
Finally, Detroit might be too good of a team for St. Brown to really have a commanding role. There will be several games this season where Detroit can simply win by running the football and playing defense. St. Brown won’t need to be catching 75-yard touchdowns every game, but Ja’Marr Chase and Malik Nabers might.
That being said, St. Brown might not live up to his ADP, which is currently fourth among wide receivers. Plenty of other players below him, like Nico Collins, Malik Nabers, and Puka Nacua, might have more upside than St. Brown for this particular season. As a result, it might be too risky to take him in the first round as a WR1. The best place to take Amon Ra St. Brown would probably be the early second round for a team that took one of the top running backs first (Saquon Barkley, Bijan Robinson, etc.).
