Amon-Ra St. Brown adds to Lions' injury pile with latest update on knee

Amon-Ra St. Brown, after coming off another stellar year for the Detroit Lions, announced on Thursday that he'd undergone a procedure on his knee in the offseason but expected to be completely ready to go in training camp for the Lions.

Not the worst injury news to receive after a week of hit after hit for Detroit. First, Frank Ragnow retired in a shock to all Lions fans. Then, head coach Dan Campbell announced that Malcolm Rodriguez, who had torn his ACL on Thanksgiving last season, wouldn't be ready to go until November at the earliest.

Then, there's always Alim McNeill, who also needs more time to recover from a torn ACL prior to suiting up for the 2025 season.

Injuries are simply the theme of this offseason for Detroit, almost like a karmic trade off for the team getting back Aidan Hutchinson after he broke his leg early in 2024. Regardless, St. Brown's injury doesn't sound like anything that'll impact the teams' offense in the long run.

Detroit still has Jameson Williams taking reps with Jared Goff in OTAs, and they also have firepower in their backfield to make up for St. Brown's absence.

St. Brown injury shouldn't be too concerning for Lions

St. Brown, who has been active with player interviews alongside his brother Equanimeous on their podcast, is the Lions' top target for Goff. He finished up his 2024 season with 1,263 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns, and a team-leading 115 receptions. He's Detroit's best option down field, so it is a bit of a blow to their OTAs to not have him present and active.

But, as mentioned, Williams is getting a lot more attention as a result. And, given how high basically everyone on the Lions' staff seems to be about Williams headed into the 2025 season, it's a good thing that he's getting the focus on offense from Goff.

This also allows for rookie Isaac TeSlaa to likely get more attention in OTAs. The 3rd round pick for the Lions has been hailed for his athleticism and strength, but we didn't get to see too much of his pass catching abilities at Arkansas due to inconsistent quarterback play there. TeSlaa should be given a golden opportunity to climb up the depth chart with St. Brown's absence in OTAs.
