Netflix's new season of the show Quarterback is out, but it's not only generating content on Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Goff is one of the signal callers featured in Season 2 of the show, which also means that several Lions players will be featured throughout.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, being Goff's right hand player, is a natural addition to the show. And, St. Brown's girlfriend inadvertently offered one of the lighter moments in the series off rip for a Goff segment.
While discussing St. Brown's journey to getting drafted by the Lions, Brooklyn Adams - his partner - tells a group that she actually helped him pick his jersey number for Detroit, which is 14. However, the way they got to that number was a bit miscalculated.
"He'll never admit this, but he asked me to count the amount of receivers before him, and that was going to be his number. But I messed up. And it's not 14, but I told him it was 14. And so that's why he's 14."
St. Brown adds, "I recounted, and I was like, that's not the right number. It was actually 16 receivers...I think Jared is a better 16 than me."
Adams, in a way, did St. Brown a favor considering that Goff is a signature number 16 in Detroit now. You never want to step on your quarterback's toes, and St. Brown was drafted a year after the team acquired Goff in a trade. So, there would've been no point arguing for 16 had Adams counted correctly.
St. Brown has certainly begun his career on a tear compared to the 16 receivers taken before him. Receivers like Kadarius Toney, D'Wayne Eskridge, Terrace Marshall Jr., Amari Rodgers, Anthony Schwartz, or Dez Fitzpatrick don't have roles as large as St. Brown with their respective teams. Some, like Toney, aren't even in the league anymore despite being taken prior to him.
"Hindsight is 20-20." It's impossible to know who will actually pan out for a team in later rounds of the draft, especially when it comes to players taken at offensive specialty positions like wide receiver. Offensive line, defensive line, and depth pieces at other parts of the field make sense at the 112th pick - not your best wide receiver. But, that's what Detroit and St. Brown have managed to pull off, despite Adams smudging numbers a bit.
