Andy Reid's son, Britt Reid, sentenced to three years in prison for crash that seriously injured 5-year-old girl

Britt Reid is going to prison. Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach and notably, the son of KC head coach Andy Reid, was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday for his role in a drunk-driving accident that seriously injured a 5-year-old.

Reid's role, specifically, was that of the drunk driver. He had pled guilty in mid-September to felony driving while intoxicated, an action that led to a 2021 crash that injured six people, including him. One of those people was Ariel Young, a 5-year-old girl who suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the crash.  Per investigators, Reid was speeding in his pickup truck when he struck two stopped cars at an entrance ramp near Arrowhead Stadium. One car was stopped and stalled because of a dead battery. The other was there to help.

Reid was facing a maximum penalty of seven years, but a plea deal was reached. Notably, he had sought probation rather than jail time.

Reid's blood-alcohol level two hours after the crash was 0.113% compared to the legal limit of 0.08%. According to NFL.com, Ariel's mother, Felicia Miller, read a victim impact statement before sentencing and stated that "the five victims of the crash were offended that Reid sought probation and they did not accept his apologies for his actions."

The 5-year-old did survive her brain injury, but according to her mother she "still drags one of her feet when she walks, has terrible balance and must wear thick eyeglasses."

Ariel was in court on Tuesday for Reid's sentencing. The Kansas City Chiefs had previously reached an agreement with her family to take care of her past and ongoing medical treatments and expenses.
