Brock Purdy on doorstep of 49ers franchise rookie record

It’s pretty good to be San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy these days.

The 262nd pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy has guided the 49ers to three straight wins and an NFC West crown, and now he’s just four touchdown passes away from breaking Tom Owen’s franchise record of 10 touchdown passes by a rookie quarterback (Jeff Garcia had 11 during his first year with the 49ers, but he became a professional in 1994 with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL).

“I think it's pretty cool to take a step back and be thankful and grateful for where you're at,” Purdy told reporters on Thursday. “But again, I don't get wrapped up in it. It's not my driving force or goal to break this record or anything like that.”

Purdy became the first QB in 49ers history to win his first three career starts, which included a win over Tom Brady.

The jersey he wore in his last two home starts now hangs at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, commemorating the record-setting start to his rookie year.

Since taking over as the starter for Jimmy Garoppolo who went down with a broken foot on Dec. 4, Purdy has thrown for 636 yards, six touchdowns and one interception in three starts with a passer rating of 114.6 or better in every games.

Because he’s only played in five of the team’s 15 games this year, Purdy’s rookie year isn’t as reflective as many of the other rookie QBs the team has had; however, he needs just 558 yards over the final two weeks to become just the fourth player to throw for 1,500 yards in his first season with the 49ers.
