Broncos name Tyrone Wheatley RBs coach
Since their 2021 season ended without a playoff appearance for the sixth straight year, the Denver Broncos have undergone an organizational and coaching facelift.
First, they hired former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to be their next head coach. Earlier this month, the team brought in Klint Kubiak to be their quarterbacks coach, and shortly thereafter, they promoted Darren Mougey to the role of assistant general manager.
On Wednesday, the team announced another move.
According to Broncos team reporter Aric DiLalla, the hiring is the final positional one on offense.
"Wheatley has spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Morgan State, an HBCU program in Maryland," DiLalla wrote. "Prior to his role as a head coach, Wheatley had NFL stops with the Jaguars and Bills. Wheatley served as the running backs coach in Jacksonville from 2017-18, which aligned with part of Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett's tenure as the Jaguars' offensive coordinator."
Wheatley also worked with Hackett in Buffalo when the former served as the team's running backs coach in 2013 and 2014 while Hackett was the squad's offensive coordinator.
