Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will allow players to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.

McCollum, 24, went undrafted out of Sam Houston State in 2022 and caught on with the Texans.

He was among the team’s final roster cuts and was added back to their practice squad in September of 2022.

Following his stint with the Texans, McCollum signed a futures deal with their Eagles and has spent most of the season on their practice squad.

In 2023, McCollum has appeared in one game for the Eagles and recorded no statistics.

Angels, Orioles fill needs with this surprising trade

The Baltimore Orioles were looking to add a right-handed hitting outfielder during the offseason. The Los Angeles Angels, meanwhile, needed to add talent to a thin pitching staff. A trade between the two teams has begun the process of filling those holes on the roster. The Orioles traded pitcher Grayson Rodriguez to the Angels on Tuesday night. In exchange, the Angels sent outfielder Taylor Ward to Baltimore. This trade may provide a window into the expectations of both teams. Ward is slated to become a free agent after the upcoming season, a win-now move for a team looking to prove that a dismal 2025 showing was an aberration. Rodriguez, meanwhile, is under team control through the 2029 season. Angels, Orioles trade a possible win for both teams In addition to balancing out a lefty-hitting outfield, the 31-year-old Ward gives the Orioles a power element that they were lacking in the lineup. He produced a .228/.317/.475 batting line over 663 plate appearances, hitting 36 homers and 31 doubles. Although Ward is strictly a left fielder at this stage of his career, his powerful bat mitigates his lack of defensive versatility. Rodriguez missed the entire 2025 season due to a myriad of injuries. A consensus top-100 prospect from 2020-23, Rodriguez had begun to live up to expectations in 2024 before a strained right lat ended his season. He posted a solid 3.86 ERA and a 1.243 WHiP over 116.2 innings, striking out 130 batters with 36 walks. Rodriguez underwent elbow surgery in August and is expected to return to the mound in either March or April. This trade may end up as a victory for both sides. Rodriguez gives the Angels a needed starter to slot behind Yusei Kikuchi in the rotation and could establish himself as a top-of-the-rotation arm if he is fully healthy. Ward adds a dangerous power hitter to a solid lineup. Should the Orioles return to the postseason with Ward as a factor, he would be well worth the cost.

Commanders rocked as a young defender’s emergence violently collapses

The Washington Commanders are mercifully at their bye week. This time last year, fans were dreaming of potentially making a postseason run. This time around, it's an entirely different story. There's plenty of blame to be tossed around. That being said, Washington's defense was much-improved from previous weeks against the Miami Dolphins after head coach Dan Quinn took over coordinator duties from Joe Whitt Jr. The Commanders are particularly banking on growth from their long-term building blocks after the change. Some such players, including defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw and cornerback Mike Sainristil (fourth-quarter muffed punt return aside), had positive showings. Others, not so much. Commanders put Quan Martin on notice after underwhelming campaign so far Entering the 2025 season, safety Quan Martin was considered one of the Commanders' top breakout candidates. He came on strong at the end of 2024, solidifying his starting spot and making some big plays during Washington's run to the NFC title game. Notably, he recorded a pick-six in the divisional round win over the Detroit Lions. Martin was expected to be one of Washington's top emerging young pieces. Instead, he has taken a step backwards. The free-agent loss of Jeremy Chinn and the injury to Will Harris have placed a greater burden on the Illinois product, and he's struggled in coverage and tackling. The 2023 second-round pick's issues continued in the NFL's inaugural trip to Madrid, and Martin saw his snap count take a significant hit. The third-year pro was on the field for only 66 percent of the Commanders' defensive plays, way down from his season mark of 92%. Darnell Savage Jr. saw 26 snaps compared to Martin's 37, a troubling sign for the player. Harris could also be set to return after the Commanders' Week 12 bye, so it will be interesting to see how that plays into his role moving forward. Jeremy Reaves has been holding down the fort at strong safety in Harris's absence, and Quinn may want to explore moving one of them to free safety if Martin remains a liability. Either way, it's not looking good for the long-term future of a player the Commanders had high hopes for before the campaign. Martin still has the rest of the season and possibly next year to turn the narrative around, but his playing time can no longer be taken for granted. The message has been sent loud and clear to all underperforming contributors, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Play better, or you won't play.

Lakers’ Austin Reaves takes hilarious G League shot at LeBron James after Jazz win

LeBron James made his return to the hardwood on Tuesday night after a 14-game absence due to sciatica, helping the Los Angeles Lakers take their 11th win of the new campaign, a 140-125 victory over the Utah Jazz. James had been working towards a return over the past week or so, with one of the most crucial parts of his recovery being an assignment with the South Bay Lakers — the team’s G League affiliate. James being in the G League was surreal considering how he’s arguably the greatest basketball player to ever exist, thus spawning thousands of jokes on the internet. Austin Reaves has been one of those who’s been joining in on the fun, and he once again poked fun at the fact that James’ rehab process did include him spending some time in the NBA’s minor leagues, so to speak. “Pretty good G League player over there. … The G raised him,” Reaves hilariously remarked after the Lakers’ win, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic. The Lakers guard had already joked about James’ G League assignment earlier; after their blowout win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, a game that Bronny James started while his dad was with South Bay, Reaves pointed out how “awesome” it was to have Bronny starting and LeBron being in the G League. Reaves has been on a tear when it comes to bantering with his teammates, which just goes to show how beloved of a teammate he truly is. He has even gotten the funny bone of Luka Doncic to tingle, with Doncic joking around with Reaves during the former’s postgame interview with Spectrum SportsNet. Protect him at all costs, Lakers. Lakers’ Austin Reaves is universally beloved — and for good reason Reaves is such a good guy to have around the locker room, and he’s one of the hardest workers on the Lakers squad as well, making him as close to being the perfect teammate as one can be. There is no arrogance to Reaves, and he’s always working hard on how to be better — hence his development from a hustle guy off the bench to one of the best scorers in the NBA. And it’s his positivity and fun-having nature that has endeared him this much to both James and Doncic to the point that he can joke around with them without causing hurt feelings.

Taylor Swift's Emotional Letter to Late Liam Payne Set to Fetch $13,000 at Auction

Taylor Swift's emotional handwritten letter to Liam Payne is expected to draw significant attention when it goes up for auction next month. The note, sent in December 2017, is projected to sell for as much as $13,000 due to its deeply personal and historic nature. Swift wrote the message shortly before Payne took the stage at the Jingle Bell Ball in London, at a time when he was gaining traction as a solo artist after One Direction began its hiatus. According to the auctioneers, interest has already grown ahead of bidding. Taylor wrote: "Liam, long time no see! I'm so excited for you. You're crushing it out there. I'm obsessed with Bedroom Floor. It's so cool to see you from afar, I'm always cheering you on. Good luck tonight!" The Mirror reports that the letter showed up in an envelope labeled only "Liam," covered in stars. The envelope was wax-sealed with a "T," and on the back appeared "Nashville, Tennessee." Payne reportedly gave the letter to a friend shortly after receiving it. The sale of the note comes just over a year after Payne's death in October 2024. The singer died at age 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. According to the People, an autopsy later revealed polytrauma along with traces of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his system. His sister, Ruth Gibbins, described ongoing grief in the months since his death. She said: "My brain is locked on your last minutes on this earth, the unaccounted minutes, the minutes I will never have the answers to, the minutes that changed everything." She also posted on Instagram : "I underestimated grief, woah, did I underestimate it. I am paralysed by it daily. I thought I had felt it before but I know the losses before you were just intense sadness, you are the loss of my life, the one person who l will miss at every single occasion in my life." Omega Auctions is expected to see much interest from collectors once it begins accepting bids for the item, since the letter is a rare personal exchange between two major pop figures. According to the source, the timing has added an emotional weight to the sale, aligning as it does with the anniversary of Payne's death.
