The Houston Texans have completely transformed their franchise and the way the football world looks at them. They were once considered the laughingstock of the NFL, and now they are a team that is way ahead of schedule, with one of the best quarterbacks in the league and one of the best head coaches.
They are one of the newer NFL franchises in the league, so their history of success isn't really there yet. Instead, they have a history of being very bad. Now, though, after winning a playoff game in their true rebuild yesterday with their rookie quarterback and rookie head coach, they are making their way up the ranks—slowly but surely.
One would even say they are becoming a free-agent destination, as guys like Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Queen and Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley want to play in Houston. Houston is becoming a well-oiled machine, and some of their free-agent acquisitions are comparing the way the franchise is run to some of the best teams ever. However, while tight end Dalton Schultz did that with the Dallas Cowboys, he also made a comparison that fans will love.
"There are people literally going on tours while you're lifting in the weight room," Schultz said on the Pat McAfee Show. "And they've got like a, they've got a one-way mirror for people to like look at, it's literally, it's a zoo, dude. There are people tapping on the glass, trying to get people's attention as they're doing power cleans or whatnot. It's just... it's different.
"That's the brand that they've built. That's what Jerry Jones likes. That's the way that they run things, and there's nothing wrong with that. This is also a really well-run organization in Houston. I think that was one of the things that kind of scared me about leaving Dallas the most: I wasn't sure what another organization would kind of feel like. And dude, I got here, and I was like... this place is a well-oiled machine."
The Texans are quickly building something special, unlike where it seems in Dallas, they are building something that is more about showing off than it is winning. And, for all of the Cowboys fans saying that the Texans have nothing to show for it, well, they have more playoff wins than the Cowboys since the Texans have been a team.
The Texans are quitely becoming Texas' team.
