Insider blasts Eli Manning as Hall of Fame candidate

NFL insider Jason La Canfora has made it known why he doesn't consider New York Giants legend Eli Manning a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

"I just think there are too many seasons where, like, you can’t go around leading the league in interceptions multiple times and be a Hall of Famer, for me," La Canfora said during the "In The Huddle" podcast, as shared by Ryan Gilbert of Audacy. "I think if he played in a different market it wouldn’t be as much of a conversation. If his last name was different it wouldn’t be as much of a conversation."

Per the Pro-Football-Reference website, Manning shared the lead for most passes intercepted for the 2007 season. He threw the league's most picks in 2010 and repeated that feat in 2013.

La Canfora also blasted Manning for remaining in the league a little past his physical prime.

"... he went from like a two-to-three year period where you’re like 'This guy’s really no good,' to a five or six-year period where you’re like 'This guy’s really not any good,'" La Canfora added about Manning.

As Michael Eisen noted for the Giants' website, Manning retired in January 2020 holding every significant career passing record in franchise history. More importantly, as it pertains to Manning's Hall of Fame credentials, he was named Most Valuable Player for New York's Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI wins over the New England Patriots.

Per Billy Heyen of Sporting News, Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Bart Starr and Terry Bradshaw are the only players to have ever claimed multiple Super Bowl MVP awards. Montana, Starr and Bradshaw are immortalized in Canton, and Brady will certainly join them assuming he doesn't actually play forever.

As for Manning, he'll first be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2025.
