Jaguars activate Gardner Minshew from COVID-19 reserve list

Gardner Minshew's time on the reserve/COVID-19 list was short, as the Jaguars quarterback was activated from the list on Tuesday morning and can begin resuming football activities immediately.

Minshew was placed on the list on Sunday, and a player must be medically cleared via protocols established by the NFL and NFLPA to be taken off it. With Minshew now cleared, he can hopefully focus on the upcoming season, as he is attempting to establish himself as the Jaguars' quarterback of the future.

The Jaguars placed five players on the COVID-19 list on Sunday, but two of the players have already been cleared just two days later, as safety Andrew Wingard was also taken off the list. The Jaguars also announced that corner D.J. Hayden was being taken off the physically unable to perform list.

As the NFL gets closer to September, it's clear that COVID-19 will play a big part in how prepared teams are for the upcoming season. So far, three starting quarterbacks and two head coaches have already tested positive for the coronavirus, and given America's poor handling of the pandemic, it's hard to imagine there won't be many more cases over the course of the season. Hopefully, most cases are similar to Minshew and players are able to get back to the action quickly and safely.

Minshew was able to win the starting job for the Jaguars after Nick Foles went down in Week 1. While he gave the team some much-needed excitement, he also struggled as the season went along. Now with Foles gone, this is Minshew's chance to prove he is ready to be a starting NFL quarterback for the long haul.
