Jared Goff downplays criticism from Sean McVay: 'I'm a big boy, I can handle it'

Rams head coach Sean McVay called out Jared Goff following their loss to the San Francisco 49ers, saying the quarterback could not turn the ball over and expect to win games. Goff was asked if McVay's comments got to him and he downplayed it, saying he could handle the criticism.

"If he was lying I'd feel differently about it -- he's absolutely right," Goff told ESPN. " I'm a big boy, I can handle it. We have a great relationship and I'm accountable for myself."

Los Angeles currently finds itself in the playoff mix after 11 games but the 7-4 team has lacked the consistency to look like a real contender up to this point. And that's in no small part due to Goff, especially in the team's loss to the 49ers last week.

Goff had two interceptions and a lost fumble in the game, allowing San Francisco to steal a game many assumed they had no business winning. Goff has thrown 10 interceptions and fumbled the ball seven times this season, delivering only one turnover-free performance over the last seven weeks.

Fortunately for the Rams, it sounds like Goff knows he needs to play better for them to have a chance of making a deep run in the playoffs, as turnovers can be the difference between a Super Bowl appearance and a first-round exit. If Goff can limit his turnovers, the Rams could even challenge the 8-3 Seattle Seahawks for the NFC West title, allowing the team to host a playoff game rather than playing on the road.
