Man, if you thought the quarterback rotation was bad for the Jets you haven’t been paying enough attention to the offensive line.
The New York Jets ruled out guard Wes Schweitzer for the game on Sunday against the 7-5 Houston Texans. Schweitzer return from IR in time to start at right guard last week for the Jets 13-8 loss against the Atlanta Falcons.
He was able to play through his calf injury against Atlanta, but he appears to have suffered some sort of setback, leading the team to rule him out for this Sunday. Schweitzer originally injured the calf back on October 29th against the New York Giants and was placed on IR the following day.
The Jets starting a new combination of offensive linemen would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad and expected. This will be the 10th different iteration of the Jets offensive line used this season. That’s 10 times the Jets offensive line was different in 13 games.
"Denver would be the one. That was the last time we had the same o-line," said Saleh looking back to Week 5.
The Jets have used 13 different offensive linemen this year due to injury. At right guard alone, the team has been forced to start six different players over the season's first 13 weeks. They've deployed five different right tackles and three different blindside protectors.
In another concerning development, rookie right tackle Carter Warren out of Pittsburgh landed on the official injury report due to a hip issue he suffered Friday at practice and is questionable to suit up against Houston.
"I thought last year was the worst it’s ever been. Last year was carnage, and I don’t know if there’s another word for it," said Saleh. "Guys moving all over the line of scrimmage. Carter Warren’s going from left to right, you got [Joe]Tippmann going from guard to center. You got Iron Man on the left guard has been getting better every week with Laken."
Tomlinson, to his credit, has been the lone mainstay along the line, starting every game thus far at left guard.
The Jets are still hopeful that Carter Warren will be able to suit up for the game and play right tackle. If that’s the case, Max Mitchell will slide inside and play right guard. If Warren is unable to go, the Jets will have to get creative in front of Zach Wilson.
While the quarterback merry-go-round has stollen all the headlines, it really pales in comparison to what the Jets have going on along their front five. It almost doesn’t matter who plays quarterback if they can’t get things solved up front.
