Julio Jones says he joined Eagles to 'dominate'

Wide receiver Julio Jones signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday to give the defending NFC champions depth on offense.

At 34 years old and four seasons removed from both his last Pro Bowl honor and season of playing more than 10 games, the former Atlanta Falcons great is clearly past his prime.

Don't tell Jones that though, who said on Wednesday that he is with the Eagles to "dominate."

94WIP.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks noted that it "sure sounds like" the likely future Hall of Famer will play with quarterback Jalen Hurts and company in their Week 7 "Sunday Night Football" showdown against the Miami Dolphins.

Philadelphia already has an elite wideout in A.J. Brown and one of the best No. 2 wide receivers in the league in DeVonta Smith. The Eagles also have a top-10 (if not top-five) pass-catching tight end in Dallas Goedert, so Hurts isn't exactly lacking aerial weapons right now.

Head coach Nick Sirianni said Wednesday that he believes Jones has plenty of juice left, which led to the one-year deal. Sirianni added, however, that the passing offense will continue to run through Brown, Goedert and Smith.

Behind Brown and Smith in the wide receivers' room are Olamide Zaccheaus and Quez Watkins. The latter is on injured reserve with a hamstring issue.

After being selected by the Falcons as the sixth overall pick in 2011, Jones spent the first 10 years of his career with the franchise, making seven Pro Bowls and earning two First-Team All-Pro honors while leading the NFL in receptions once and receiving yards twice. Jones and Zaccheaus played together in Atlanta during Jones's final two seasons in 2019 and 2020.

The University of Alabama product joined the Tennessee Titans for the 2021 season and battled numerous injuries, limiting him to 10 contests. Jones played with Brown that year, who was traded to Philadelphia in April 2022.

He posted career lows in targets (43), receptions (24) and receiving yards (299) across 10 regular season games (five starts) in 2022 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jones' tenure in Tampa Bay ended with his best individual performance, though, as the veteran recorded seven catches for 74 yards and one touchdown on 11 targets in their wild-card round loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
