The Dallas Cowboys are known to be heavily interested in adding offensive line talent in the 2024 NFL Draft, most likely with their 24th overall pick.
They lost Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz in free agency and even if they proclaim to be confident in the young, unproven players on the team, first-round talents are always potential game changers.
But if they do pick an offensive lineman on Thursday, it's starting to look like it won't be an offensive tackle. At least not after NFL Network's draft expert and insider Daniel Jeremiah.
On Wednesday, Jeremiah tweeted out that after making a handful of calls around the NFL, "everyone is moving up for an OT."
The message posted on Twitter/X shouldn't be a major surprise, but it is a major warning for fans wanting to see their teams pick a tackle in one of the best classes for the position in years.
With it being such a premium position in the league and teams feeling like there's not of them to go around, it makes sense that front offices are gearing up to do whatever it takes to secure a promising prospect.
For the Cowboys, however, it more than likely means that their chances of finding a developmental tackle such as Amarius Mims and Tyler Guyton (who are very often mocked to them) are looking slimmer and slimmer. Although we can't know for sure, I'd bet a good amount of money in them not being one of the teams Jeremiah is talking about.
After all, the Cowboys value their picks a lot and haven't moved up in the order since 2012 when they took Morris Claiborne Jr. and regretted it shortly after. Now that they're missing a fourth-rounder in 2024, I expect them to move down if they participate in a trade, not up.
As of right now, it's sure looking like picking a center could be more viable for the Cowboys if they target offensive line help as Graham Barton, Jackson Powers-Johnson, and Zach Frazier are much more likely to fall to 24th. Or perhaps a prospect like Taliese Fuaga or Troy Fautanu - who are seen as potential tackles making the switch to guard because of size concerns - drops to the Cowboys' pick as a result?
Despite the Cowboys needing a tackle to keep Tyler Smith where he plays best, guard, it's starting to look like a position switch is inevitable for the third-year, first-round lineman who started his career as left tackle only to move to guard and earn All-Pro honors. Now it might be back to square one.
