The Philadelphia Eagles are losing a key member of their front office.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane, salary cap executive and Howie Roseman's right-hand man since elementary school, Jake Rosenberg, is leaving the team.
Rosenberg, who has spent 12 seasons with the Eagles, tells McLane that the move was his decision and he hopes to land a general manager job with another team.
“I feel a certain way about myself and what I’ve learned and I feel like I don’t hesitate to tell people I work for the best general manager in the NFL as far as having every skill necessary to be successful in that job," Roseman said.
“I’ve seen team building, I’ve seen turnarounds, I’ve seen just about every single thing that would be asked of somebody to do in terms of running a team. And Howie makes all the decisions and is the decision maker, but I would love an opportunity to continue to grow, to see if I could execute in my own way.”
Rosenberg, a New Jersey native, has been a numbers guy for most of his life after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in economics and international relations.
Before joining Howie in the NFL in 2012, Rosenberg worked as a bond and commodities trader for a decade and was a partner in several different trading ventures.
In Philly, 48-year-old Rosenberg worked side by side with Roseman on the Eagles' overall plan for player signings and acquisitions. His duties included handling the salary cap, contract negotiations, compliance with the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, and strategic planning.
His absence will be a big loss for the Eagles' front office, but it's clear that he's more than ready to handle an NFL team on his own.
