The Pittsburgh Steelers have put together a very busy offseason. Among the high-profile moves that they have made are trading away Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, signing Russell Wilson, and trading for Justin Fields with the Chicago Bears.

Needless to say, the Steelers are looking quite different than they did at the end of last season.

Keeping that in mind, it’s clear that the Steelers are not closed for business. They are still actively searching for ways to acquire more talent and to improve their roster.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are among the teams that have shown interest in signing veteran free agent pass-rusher Bud Dupree. Both the Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons are also interested in his services.

Dupree would be an interesting addition for the Steelers. He would likely carve out a role, even if it wasn’t as a starter. With injuries always being a concern, his addition as a depth piece would be important.

Taking A Closer Look At Pittsburgh Steelers Target Bud Dupree

During the 2023 season, Dupree played for the Falcons. He ended up playing in 16 games during the regular season, compiling 39 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and three defended passes.

At 31 years of age, Dupree has a lot of experience and would be able to step into whatever role the Steelers need from him. He also isn’t likely to cost much. If the Steelers want to make a quality depth move for their pass-rush, it doesn’t get much better than Dupree.

Interestingly enough, Pittsburgh is where everything started when it comes to Dupree’s NFL career. He was drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Steelers.

Mike Tomlin and company appear to be a team that have a chance to compete in the AFC. A lot will depend on which version of Russell Wilson the Steelers get. If he can put up Pro Bowl caliber numbers, which he has for the majority of his career, Pittsburgh is going to be a tough team to beat.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see if the Pittsburgh Steelers end up signing Dupree. As mentioned, there are other teams interested in signing him as well. We’ll have more updates on this possibility as they become available.
