Robert Woods was shocked when Rams traded Jared Goff but teaming up with Matt Stafford is 'super exciting'

Robert Woods only had one word to describe his response to the Rams trading away Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions.

"Shock," Woods told CBS Sports. "Jared was the No. 1 pick. You think he's the face of the team, franchise quarterback, and then that happens."

Woods' surprise was understandable, as Goff had started all but two games for the Rams over the last four seasons and even led Los Angeles to a Super Bowl in 2018. However, the Rams decided they had reached their ceiling with Goff and decided to send him to Detroit (along with two first-round picks and a third-round pick) in exchange for Stafford.

While Woods was shocked to see Goff traded, he quickly got on board with the idea of catching passes from Stafford.

"For him to partner up with our receivers, our offense, and our brilliant mind of a coach in Sean McVay, that's super exciting for this upcoming season," Woods said of Stafford.

Stafford is widely considered among the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL. While that talent has not led to postseason success, most believe that is more of a reflection of the Lions' shortcomings as a franchise than Stafford's shortcomings as a quarterback. He will have the chance to prove himself in Los Angeles, as the Rams are expected to be a contender with Stafford under center.
