Steelers WR George Pickens gives opinion on 'NFL Youngboy' nickname
It didn't take long for fans to assign WR George Pickens the nickname "NFL Youngboy" when the Steelers drafted him this year. But the rookie shared his thoughts on it, and his opinion may surprise you.
"To be honest bro, I was like really never a big fan of it," Pickens said on "The Arthur Moats Experience With Deke" podcast. "It kinda got low-key corny ... I never really accepted it anyway. I was just telling people I'm G.P."
Pickens took the league by storm as a rookie, even appearing on the NFL's Twitter header for an impressive catch of his in the preseason.
He has since made numerous Catch of the Year-type plays only growing his attention and the use of his "NFL Youngboy" nickname.
"That was really like what the fans was going on with. And I'm just like a laid back type of person ... I ain't gonna be a person like 'Nah don't,'" Pickens added. "So, I just let it linger on."
Pickens has over 750 yards and four touchdowns this season with one week still to go. If he doesn't like "NFL Youngboy," he's certainly earned the right to change it.
So, "G.P." it is.
