Teammates give Panthers rookie QB rave reviews

Bryce Young's teammates are buying in to the hype.

"Everybody is here for him," Panthers wide receiver D.J. Chark said of the rookie quarterback, per David Newton of ESPN. "And we believe he can take us to some really high places."

Chark implying that Young is destined for greatness seems brash. Yet other teammates have also praised the 21-year-old and raved about how he has the it factor.

"It's hard not to like that kid," edge-rusher Brian Burns said via Newton. "He's put quite a stamp on the locker room."

Aside from winning the locker room over with charisma, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft is proving that he possesses the skill set of a future franchise QB. Newton reported that Young finished camp with two touchdown passes to wideout Adam Thielen during red-zone work.

Young has also progressed rapidly. He recently started taking more first-team reps during OTAs over Andy Dalton. Carolina hasn't officially named him as the starter, but the move signals it's preparing for him to take over soon.

Carolina risked a lot on Young, trading two first-rounders (and more) to Chicago, allowing it to move up from No. 9 to No. 1 in the draft and select him. The QB's strong first impression is a great sign and shows that the deal could pay off.

The Panthers need a jolt of energy given they haven't made the playoffs since 2017 and have posted five consecutive losing seasons. Young is already having a positive effect. That could translate onto the field and help the organization grow into a perennial playoff team.

Green Bay Packers: Mike Macdonald’s First Message to Matt LaFleur After Mayhem-Marred Practice

Joint practices in the NFL can be really heated. Just take for example the one involving the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, with fights erupting on the field between players from both sides. Even though it’s just a practice session with nothing significant on the line, the competitive juices of players can get in the way and spark fiery moments on the field. If anything, at least no one appears to have been seriously hurt from the multiple altercations reported. However, Packers right tackle Zach Tom was reportedly tossed out of the field after throwing punches at a couple of Seahawks players. Despite all the chaos that transpired between the Packers and the Seahawks, Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald had great things to say about Green Bay. Seahawks head coach sends message to Matt LaFleur, Green Bay Packers Brady Henderson of ESPN noted that Macdonald started his session with the media after the practice, “by thanking Packers coach Matt LaFleur and the organization for hosting them.” In any case, Macdonald felt good overall about his players. “It’s hard to tell what happened, who said what,” Macdonald shared. “Look, you want your guys to defend their [teammates]. There’s a line. Whether we go past the line, I don’t think we did, which is good. Our guys stayed composed. But some of these things do tend to happen, and however it gets started … hopefully it’s not our guys, but people are going to react to a certain extent. I think our guys handled it pretty well.” The Packers and the Seahawks will still see each other on the field this offseason, as they are scheduled to play in their 2025 NFL preseason finale on Saturday at Lambeau Field.

Jameis Winston's Nickname For Giants Quarterbacks Appears to Exclude Russell Wilson

The New York Giants played their third preseason game of the year on Thursday night. They easily handled the New England Patriots, blowing them out 42-10. The Giants are now undefeated this preseason, holding a record of 3-0, following victories over the Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets, and now the Patriots. While everything has looked great on the field for the Giants this preseason, averaging just over 35 points per game in their three victories, there appears to be a handful of tough decisions the franchise will have to make before the regular season kicks off. One decision assuredly near the top of that list will be the handling of their currently crowded, quarterback depth chart. As of Thursday night, the Giants are carrying Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart, and Tommy DeVito on their roster. How Many Quarterbacks Will Make Giants Roster? While Wilson did not see the field during Thursday's game, he remains listed as the No. 1 QB on the Giants latest unofficial depth chart. Winston is listed as No. 2, Dart as the No. 3, and DeVito is listed as the No. 4. This has led many to ask if the Giants will carry four QBs as they near the final cutdown to their official 53-man roster in preparation for Week 1 of the regular season. The deadline for this cutdown is looming over every NFL team's head, as it will show itself on August 26. Winston, who was the first QB brought in during free agency this offseason by the Giants, appears as comfortable as ever, as he has been everywhere he's played during his 10-year career. Following the Giants victory on Thursday, Winston broke out a camera, filming himself alongside Dart and DeVito, revealing the nickname he's coined for the trio. While it's evident Winston is getting along swimmingly with his other QBs, the nickname "The Three Amigos" appears to exclude QB No. 1, Wilson. "They call us the three amigos," Winston said. Winston would go on to compliment DeVito, who threw for three touchdowns against the Patriots, while also pointing out the Giants continue winning with their young QBs. "Somebody had the hat trick today. We eat Ws with the young bucks. You know what time it is. Go big blue!" There have been no reported rifts or issues between Wilson and any of the other QBs on the Giants roster, solely speculation that Wilson won't be the long-term answer at QB for the Giants. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, is one of the NFL reporters who has suggested Wilson could be traded to make room for Dart as the No. 1 QB. Florio made the suggestion earlier this week that Wilson could be a trade target of the Cowboys. The QB situation for the Giants should become more clear following the final 53-man roster-cutdown. Until then, the world will continue to enjoy Winston's hilarious antics.

Jerry Jones: Micah Parsons' agent told me where we could stick contract details

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to deal with David Mulugheta insofar as to get Micah Parsons' agent to fill out the paperwork on the contract extension that was already negotiated. During an appearance with Michael Irvin on Thursday, Jones said Mulugheta told him to shove the paperwork up their heinie. "When we wanted to send the details to the agent, The agents told us to stick it up our a--," Jones said. "Just so we're clear. (Parsons) and I talked, and then we were going to send it over to the agent, and we had our agreements on term, amount, guarantees, everything. "We were going to send it over to the agent, and the agent said, 'Don't bother, because we've got all that to negotiate.' Well, I'd already negotiated. I'd already moved off my mark on several areas." Following an incoherent analogy to a child going between a mom and dad to negotiate, Jones accused Mulugheta of trying to "stick his nose" in negotiations to try to get the Cowboys to cave for a better deal for his client. Jones has no plans to back down from the agreement he had already worked out with Parsons. "In my mind, for the Dallas Cowboys, we've got it done," Jones said. "And if the agent wants to finish up the details, which he should, and do all the paperwork, he can do that, and we're ready to go. But as far as the amount of money, the years, the guarantees, all of that we negotiated." Dallas is set to conclude its preseason against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night with no end in sight to the biggest distraction on the team this summer. Jones should have avoided the situation with Parsons by dealing with Mulugheta directly, but that might have caused the theatre to be much less dramatic before the regular season.

An $18M Gamble That Could Pay Off Big for Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers are facing a pivotal decision in goal — one that could define their playoff strategy for 2026 and potentially set them up in the years to come. Stuart Skinner, who has quietly backstopped the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances, is entering the final season of his $2.6 million deal. And with the salary cap projected to climb significantly, the time to strike might be now. This argument won’t go over well with many Oilers fans. Specifically, those who believe Edmonton needs an upgrade in goal aren’t going to like the idea of investing in Skinner for a sizeable amount of money. Frankly, it’s hard to blame those skeptics; Skinner’s numbers won’t land him in the Vezina conversation. That said, his consistency has been good enough to keep Edmonton in contention, and if he has a solid 2025-26 season, you can bet the Oilers are going to wind up paying to keep him. When the Oilers’ defense holds up, Skinner performs as well as most mid-tier starters across the league. Under new goalie coach Peter Aubry, there’s optimism that Skinner could add another layer to his game — and if that happens, his price tag could soar. Goalie Deals, Like What’s Coming For Skinner, Aren’t Getting Cheaper League-wide trends suggest goalie deals aren’t getting cheaper. Locking Skinner in for something in the range of three years at $6 million per season could give the Oilers cost certainty and valuable cap flexibility. Comparable netminders like Logan Thompson, Tristan Jarry, and Darcy Kuemper already sit in that range, and Edmonton could find itself with a bargain if Skinner continues to grow. Lukas Dostal just signed on with the Ducks for five more years at $6.5 million per season, in what many are calling a bargain extension. The benefit isn’t just about saving money. A team-friendly deal keeps Skinner movable if things go sideways. Waiting comes with risk. A breakout season from Skinner would make negotiations far more expensive — especially in a market where quality goaltending is scarce. For a team operating in a tight Cup window, overpaying later could mean losing depth elsewhere. Is Skinner the Long-Term Answer Or Yesterday’s News? If the Oilers aren’t sold on Skinner, investing further in him isn’t the right play. But, if they believe he’s got the tools to rebound, buying low (or at least, lower) isn’t the worst idea. He’s experienced, and Edmonton has taken the time and shown patience to see him flourish. “I think going through it the first time, you go through that experience in the summer and then you realize the things you did well and the things you didn’t do well,” Skinner said to NHL.com’s Derek Van Diest. “So going through it a second time, but being able to say you went through this does help you get over it quicker, just because you have to go back into training and do it all over again.” Maybe the lows have shown themselves, and the highs could be around the corner. Moreover, one could argue the decision is less about whether Skinner is the long-term answer in net and more about innovative asset management. Betting on him now is a calculated gamble that could pay off in a big way, especially if Edmonton believes their championship core can win with steady — if not spectacular — play between the pipes. For general manager Stan Bowman, this isn’t just about a contract; it’s about strategy. Move early, and the Oilers could secure the cost certainty they need to keep their stars together. If Skinner remains average, a $6 million goaltender is potentially a tough sell, but not an impossible one.
