Texans interview QB Josh McCown for head-coaching position

The Houston Texans announced on Friday that they've interviewed former NFL head coach Jim Caldwell and quarterback Josh McCown for their vacancy at head coach.

It's the second name that had fans scratching their heads and wondering what those running the team may be thinking ahead of the weekend.

McCown, who turned 41 years old last July, signed with the Texans in November largely because he wanted to be closer to his family while remaining in the league as an active player. As Michael David Smith explained for Pro Football Talk, McCown has some high school coaching on his resume but has never been a coordinator, QB coach, or quality control coach at a high level.

It's possible McCown has built a tight relationship with disgruntled Houston signal-caller Deshaun Watson and that appointing McCown as head coach would be enough to convince Watson to not force an exit from Houston before next September. As respected as McCown is among peers around the league, one would think Watson would prefer to play under a proven commodity such as Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

Bieniemy recently told Sky Sports that he's ready to be an NFL head coach.

For what it's worth, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero tweeted that the Texans aren't close to making a final decision:
