The Greatest Roast of All Time on Netflix lived up to the hype. For months, fans had waited in anticipation for the opportunity to bring Tom Brady to his knees, metaphorically speaking. The lineup featured a lot of controversial figures from Brady’s career and popular celebrities.

A notable presence there was Drew Bledsoe, the quarterback from whom Tom Brady stole the starter’s position. Eventually, this switch ended up costing the former QB his job. Brady strayed into questionable territory by making a controversial joke on Bledsoe. He referenced one of the darkest days in American history, 9/11 during his bit.

The rest of America should always remember where I was that fateful day, in September of 2001, when tragically, those two jets slammed into Drew Bledsoe. Tom Brady via The Roast of Tom Brady

The former Patriots QB suffered a gruesome injury in 2001. It was when Bledsoe suffered a horrifying tackle during a game against the New York Jets. Linebacker Mo Lewis and another defensive player slammed into him injuring him Immediately, the Patriots quarterback was deemed unable to continue.

This ended up opening the door for Tom Brady to start in the NFL. Though Brady and the Patriots lost against the Jets that game, their fate was set. In the next string of games, Brady helped the team to winning ways and ended winning his first Super Bowl that season. Despite the controversial nature of the joke, Bledsoe took it in great strides.

Drew Bledsoe took the jibe from Tom Brady in good spirits

The manner in which Tom Brady framed his joke was clever but he may have infuriated many. He found an opportunity where he could reference the most tragic act of terrorism on American soil and compare Drew Bledsoe’s injury to it

For years, speaking about the September 11 attacks in a comedic context has been viewed as straying into a grey area, one that has earned prominent comedians their fair share of backlash. Considering that it was a roast setup, Tom Brady’s joke must be considered in jest. Throughout the night, many of his former teammates such as Julian Edelman and Randy Moss , and former head coach Bill Belichick took their fair share of shots at him.

Drew Bledsoe himself did not hold back either. After over two decades, he finally got the opportunity to legally emasculate Tom Brady, the man who took his job away from him in front of millions of viewers! It was an entertaining show, and all the guests present took jibes directed at them in good spirits!
