Trevon Diggs, Dak Prescott address trash-talking controversy

Things aren't always how they seem. In a viral video, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs was captured saying some colorful words to quarterback Dak Prescott.

However, both Diggs and Prescott downplayed the incident and chalked it up as normal trash talk between teammates.

"People don’t need to worry about what we’ve got going on," Diggs said, per USA Today. "Our relationship, my relationship with my brother, or how we operate. At the end of the day, it’s our team and Dak is the leader of our team.”

Prescott went so far as to say as he's the one who usually starts with the verbal jabs.

"I might honestly talk the most," Prescott said. "I start a lot of it. I open the door and make people feel comfortable."

Diggs said that the trash talk actually makes practice fun.

"I love Dak to death. There’s nothing behind it, it’s just competitiveness," Diggs explained. "It’s football. It’s just how we play. It’s just practice. That’s just what we do. We just talk trash here and there and keep it pushing.”

The Cowboys will need to keep pushing, because their output in recent years hasn't cut it. Prescott is just 2-4 in the postseason, and the Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl since the 1995 season. If a little chippiness in practice can lead to better team chemistry then so be it.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said that trash-talking is part of the team culture and it shows their connection is tight.

"Trash talking is part of our environment," McCarthy said, per CBS Sports. "I don't referee that. It goes on in the lunch line."

Whether the team talks trash or merely exchanges pleasantries, all that matters is winning, and the expectations for the Cowboys will always be sky-high with owner Jerry Jones calling the shots.
