Was Broncos' Russell Wilson 'tipping pitches' vs. Seahawks?

The phrase "tipping pitches" is usually associated with competitions such as MLB but is sometimes appropriate for describing an NFL occurrence. It seems the recent "Monday Night Football" game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks that Seattle won 17-16 produced one of those times.

As Michael David Smith noted for Pro Football Talk, longtime Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett was mic'd up for Monday's victory and can be heard telling teammates that Denver quarterback and former teammate Russell Wilson was utilizing hand signals similar to those he used during his 10-season Seattle tenure.

"He’s running a go! He’s running a go!" Lockett yelled at one point after noticing one of Wilson's signals. Lockett was also able to provide some inside information to safety Tariq Woolen, and the 29-year-old even told Broncos receivers Courtland Sutton and KJ Hamler after the game that Wilson needs to "change them signals."

Lockett is a one-time All-Pro receiver who played alongside Wilson from 2015 through the 2021 campaign and, thus, would recognize if the 33-year-old didn't switch things up after he was traded from Seattle to Denver in March. Meanwhile, Wilson completed 29-of-42 pass attempts for 340 yards with a touchdown in the defeat.

Wilson is a one-time Super Bowl champion who should be able to make quick adjustments ahead of this Sunday's home-opener against the 0-0-1 Houston Texans. He'd better do just that, because there's now audio to go along with hand signals he's allegedly used for years.
