Why QB Jacoby Brissett could give Browns an edge vs. Dolphins

Could journeyman QB Jacoby Brissett give the Browns a huge advantage against Miami?

Brissett appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins last season, including five starts in place of an injured Tua Tagovailoa. He threw for a pedestrian 1,283 yards and five touchdowns.

Every day in practice Brissett went up against the Dolphins' defense, a potential edge for the Browns on the road Sunday.

Dolphins defensive coordinator Josh Boyer was retained when new head coach Mike McDaniel took over in Miami, with the intention of keeping the scheme similar given the defense's success the past two seasons.

That means Brissett could be familiar with a lot of what he sees Sunday.

The Dolphins have likely prepared for such a possibility, but their recent defensive struggles could be highlighted even more when facing Brissett.

The Dolphins' secondary that was among the league’s best over the past two seasons has not played up to that level, and the pass rush has not been able to compensate for those issues.

This season, however, the defense ranks 27th in yards allowed.

Brissett is a native of Palm Beach, where he played football for William T. Dwyer High School and became a four-star recruit.

The Browns are 3-5 and coming off their bye week. They last played on Oct. 31, a 32-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Dolphins are 6-3 and have won three straight games.
