Analyst names 'perfect' fit for QB Russell Wilson

On Monday, the Broncos informed QB Russell Wilson that they are releasing him at the start of the new league year, which begins on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET.

So, where will the nine-time Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl champion land next? Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd has the perfect fit.

"I think Pittsburgh's perfect," Cowherd said on "The Colin Cowherd Podcast." "I think the maturity and the commitment you get from Russell Wilson, who would just take over the offense, is ideal."

Wilson, although 35, would provide an intriguing option for the Steelers at a likely cheap price.

Kenny Pickett is the only quarterback currently on Pittsburgh's roster and the team has consistently said it plans on bringing in competition this offseason for the former 2022 first-round pick after he's thrown just 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 25 games.

Wilson's short stint in Denver was as painful to watch at times as the Steelers offense has been the past couple of years. However, Wilson was able to have more production with arguably less talent than Pickett.

Over the past two seasons, Wilson has thrown for 6,594 yards, 42 touchdowns and 19 interceptions, and while his 11-19 record as a starter is underwhelming, Cowherd believes Wilson would get back to his winning ways in Pittsburgh.

"They don't have a quarterback and, in the AFC, you're not going anywhere unless you have a star, even if it's a declining star," Cowherd added. "They can win a lot of games with Russell Wilson. They're a .500 team at best with Kenny Pickett."

Although Cowherd makes a strong point, a recent report by The Athletic's Dianna Russini revealed that the Steelers aren't planning to pursue any of the available big-name quarterbacks this offseason, including Wilson.

"The Steelers are not interested in signing Wilson in the likely event he's released by the Denver Broncos," Russini wrote.

Of course, there is still time for Pittsburgh to change its mind if that's true. However, it seems the Steelers want to give Pickett another chance to start in 2024 and signing Wilson in the coming days could prevent that from happening.
