Analyst not impressed with Jared Goff's resurgent 2022 season

Though Jared Goff had perhaps his best statistical year since his 2018 Pro Bowl season, it wasn’t enough to qualify among the top tier of NFL quarterbacks, according to Pro Football Network.

In the site’s recent QB power rankings, analyst Arif Hasan hinted that Goff’s breakout season was more of a byproduct of the weapons around him and less about his actual skillset.

“Like (49ers QBs Brock) Purdy and (Jimmy) Garoppolo, Goff takes advantage of an excellent supporting cast to help produce on offense,” Hasan wrote. “He doesn’t process as quickly as the other two, and his accuracy is not quite up to their standards, but he does have a good arm and an understanding of what he needs to do. If he could create off-book as well as Purdy or some of the other quarterbacks on this list, he’d be ranked much higher.”

Goff led the Lions to a 9-8 record—their first winning season since 2017—while throwing for 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a passer rating of 99.3. He ranked fifth in the NFL in touchdowns, sixth in passing yards and yards per attempt and seventh in passer rating.

He also had the second-fewest interceptions among quarterbacks with 20 or more touchdown passes, tying his career-low for interceptions in a season.

Goff also had the second-most single-season touchdown passes and second-fewest sacks (23) of his career, and the third-most single-season passing yards and third-best passer rating as well.
