Analyst shares worrisome take about Eagles' Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles won back-to-back games to improve to 4-2 following an up-and-down start to the season.

Despite that recent run, well-known NFL analyst Greg Cosell isn't yet convinced that the Philadelphia offense can win against top-tier opponents.

"They’re a difficult offense to watch right now,Cosell said about the Eagles during an appearance on the latest edition of the "Ross Tucker Football Podcast,as Chris Franklin of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com shared. "[Quarterback] Jalen Hurts is not playing very good football. They’re a running football team.

Hurts committed the second-most turnovers (seven) in the NFL across the season's first month as the Eagles entered their Week 5 bye at 2-2. Philadelphia then earned wins over a 1-6 Cleveland Browns team already planning for 2026, let alone 2025, and over a 2-5 New York Giants side that could be months away from experiencing another franchise reset.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley torched the Giants, his former club, to the tune of 176 rushing yards and a touchdown this past Sunday.

Meanwhile, Pro Football Reference shows that Hurts begins Week 8 tied for eighth in the league among qualified players with a 63.1 adjusted QBR and tied for 16th with a 45.5% passing success rate. According to the StatMuse website, he's 16th with 1,526 passing and rushing yards combined. He's passed for seven touchdowns and rushed for four scores.

Per ESPN stats, the Eagles are 22nd in the league with an average of 195.5 passing yards per contest

"Your quarterback has to be a bigger factor,Cosell added about the Eagles during the conversation. "Jalen Hurts, for whatever reason — and he’s played a lot of football games — he’s just not seeing things clearly right now, even basic concepts. That really handicaps and hamstrings your offense when your quarterback can’t execute basic concepts. That’s what he’s struggling with right now.

As of Thursday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Eagles as 2.5-point underdogs for this coming Sunday's game at the 3-4 Cincinnati Bengals. That line and Cosell's comments could give Hurts and Co. some bulletin board material as they look to build momentum ahead of November.
