The New England Patriots don't necessarily have an issue rolling with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer going into the 2020 season, but for some reason, many people believe Bill Belichick should take a gamble on either Andy Dalton or Cam Newton.
New England didn't draft a quarterback in this year's draft, making it more likely that they stick with their current quarterback duo. So, why is everyone convinced Dalton and Newton are options for Belichick? Who knows, but many analysts have weighed in on the situation, so let's take a look at who is pulling for Stidham and who is rooting for Dalton and Newton to become Patriots.
"If the Patriots want to go with Jarrett Stidham, more power to them. ... But if they choose to go the free agent QB route and they choose Andy Dalton, who hasn't been good since 2015, over Cam Newton it's utterly, and totally indefensible." — @getnickwright pic.twitter.com/3UCTmDF9x7

"No more Cam talk, no more Tua talk, no more Dalton talk, no more Trevor Lawrence talk. ... I'm sending confidence vibes to Stidham that he can succeed without being all-time great. That's the 'Patriot Way.'" — @kevinwildes pic.twitter.com/CyW3MOUGLV
It doesn't make sense for the Patriots to acquire an older quarterback who probably won't be any better than Stidham or increase their Super Bowl chances.
Sure, Stidham is highly unproven, but Dalton hasn't been at the top of his game since 2015, when he led the Bengals to a 10-3 record. Similarly, Newton is injury prone and has struggled since 2017 when he led the Panthers to a 11-5 record.
They're both just not great at this point in their careers, and taking a gamble on Stidham will be a much better bet for the Patriots moving forward.
The Dalton and Newton nonsense needs to end because it doesn't seem like Belichick has any interest in rolling with anyone but Stidham and Hoyer in 2020.
