Andy Dalton is set for another season as a backup quarterback, this time with a potential Super Bowl contender.

Dalton was traded from the Carolina Panthers to the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, according to multiple reports. The Panthers will receive a seventh-round pick for the veteran quarterback.

Dalton turns 39 in October, but is still seen as a trustworthy insurance policy around the NFL. He started one game for the Panthers last season, a 40-9 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills in which he threw for only 175 yards.

For the Eagles, they get an experienced backup behind Jalen Hurts, but it raises questions about the future of Tanner McKee. McKee has flashed decent potential with Philadelphia, and the Eagles might think they can get real value for him in a trade if another team is interested in taking a chance with him.

Despite some rumors to the contrary, Hurts clearly remains firmly entrenched as Philadelphia’s franchise quarterback. He is 48-15 as the team’s starter over the last four seasons.
