It has been a rough few years for Andy Dalton as a Carolina Panther. While he has started a few games for the franchise, he has had a string of bad luck. Not only did he lose his job thanks to getting into a car accident, but the history of injuries caught up to him. Dalton yet again has suffered an injury during the Week 2 preseason game against the Houston Texans.
The injury occurred during the first series of the game. It is being reported as a right elbow injury, and it was clear that something was up with a majority of the throws he was making. It seemed to have gotten worse after the pressure he got from Danielle Hunter. Once that happened, Carolina pulled Dalton and has now ruled him out, so expect much of Jack Plummer for the rest of the preseason.
It sucks to say this, but Dalton needs to look in the mirror and realize it’s over. His career has never recovered since leaving Cincinnati. He was fine as a Dallas Cowboy, but it has all been downhill since. In Carolina, he has not fared any better either. Even though he just signed a two-year deal, it is clear the game has passed him by. Dalton didn’t even look good with the Panthers during last week’s preseason game against Cleveland. With the injuries he has had and poor play on the field, it is time to close a chapter in his 15-year football career.
This injury is monumental for the Carolina Panthers. With Dalton injured, they don’t have a ton of depth at the QB position. The only other QB on the roster is Plummer. Carolina is likely going to be active in the aftermath of cuts when getting a QB if his injury is long-term. This is a situation for everyone to keep an eye on.
