The Kansas City Chiefs clinched a spot in their fifth Super Bowl in the past six seasons with another close shave against the Buffalo Bills.
Josh Allen and company gave the Chiefs all they could handle in the AFC title game, but Patrick Mahomes and company still found a way to emerge victorious. The team now has a chance to make NFL history as the only franchise to win three straight Super Bowl titles.
The Chiefs will face off against a familiar foe - the one that started what could be a historic streak. Kansas City dispatched the Philadelphia Eagles with a 38-35 victory in Super Bowl LVII before taking down the San Francisco 49ers the following a season. A victory against the Eagles again on Sunday would give the franchise five total Super Bowl victories - and four for head coach Andy Reid as he chases Bill Belichick.
As Reid prepares for the Super Bowl on Sunday, he also made a major decision about his career. The head coach confirmed he'll be back next season.
“Yes, I’ll be back,” Reid told reporters on Tuesday. Reid claims his decision is not rooted in trying to surpass Belichick on the list for most Super Bowl victories.
“That’s not part of it,” Reid said. “I just enjoy teaching. I don’t get caught up much in the stats or the records. I enjoy being around the guys. I enjoy football, the game. You can’t put in the hours we do and not enjoy it. I love the game.”
Kansas City and Philadelphia kick off at 6:30 p.m. EST on Sunday night. The game will be broadcast on Fox.
