Andy Reid, Chiefs Announce Wide Receiver Decision on Monday

Armstrong was arguably the most noteworthy roster-cut casualty after the 25-year-old was left off the 53-man roster. Armstrong lost the final receiver spot to Nikko Remigio.

Armstrong is coming off an impressive preseason. He led the squad with five receptions and recorded a team-high 54 receiving yards in the preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks.

Earlier this month, Reid highlighted Armstrong’s development with the team. The Chiefs coach also noted that the wideout has emerged as a trusted target for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“Armstrong went through the rookie camp, and pushed through that,” Reid said. “I thought he did a nice job there, and he has transferred that over. It looks like Pat has trust in him, so I think that’s a plus. He’s getting better every day. Big target, strong. I like that part of it.”

The Chiefs were able to retain Armstrong to their practice squad after the former Arkansas Razorbacks standout cleared waivers. He provides outside-receiver insurance behind a group that will be led by Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy.

Armstrong could potentially see himself elevated to the main squad if injuries strike early in the season or if Reid and Co. decide to add more size at wide receiver.
