Andy Reid, Chiefs Suffer Triple Loss on Wednesday

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs had a 2025 NFL season to forget, ending the year on a six-game losing streak and finishing with a 6-11 record. And while the Chiefs missed out on the playoffs for the first time since 2014, the main concern going into the offseason was the health of Patrick Mahomes, who tore his ACL late in the season.

Prior to free agency officially opening on Wednesday, the Chiefs made numerous moves in hopes of getting back to the Super Bowl next season. They traded away Pro Bowl cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams , with Jaylen Watson departing as well. But on the bright side, the Chiefs were able to retain Travis Kelce for a 14th season on a one-year deal. But on Wednesday, Kansas City lost three more players.

Charles Omenihu had spent the last three seasons with the Chiefs, helping them win one Super Bowl in two appearances. In 2025, the defensive tackle played in all 17 games, recording 28 tackles and 3.5 sacks. But on Wednesday, Omenihu decided it was time for a change, signing a one-year, $4 million deal with the Washington Commanders.

"Sources: The #Commanders are signing former #Chiefs DL Charles Omenihu to a 1-year, $4M deal with upside to $7M," NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on X." The 28-year old can play multiple spots on the defensive line and brings 23 career sacks. He joins Leo Chenal in the KC to WSH movement."

Malik Herring also spent the last three years in Kansas City, appearing in 26 total games through his first three NFL seasons. The defensive end out of Georgia totaled 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery during his Chiefs tenure. But Herring elected to join the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday on a one-year deal.

"Sources: The #Titans are signing former #Chiefs DE Malik Herring to a 1-year deal," Schultz wrote. "Herring was an undrafted free agent out of Georgia and spent four years developing in Kansas City and seeing some action. Titans GM Mike Borgonzi was in KC when Herring was originally signed."

Last but not least, Derrick Nnadi finished his eighth year in Kansas City after the 2025 season. But over the last two, the defensive tackle saw his role diminish, totaling 27 tackles, and zero sacks. But after spending the majority of 2025 on the bench, Nnadi has decided to sign with the Indianapolis Colts.

"Colts sign former #Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, his agency @_SportsTrust announced," KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson wrote on X.

While the Chiefs may have lost a few key defensive pieces, they did make a big addition to the offense, replacing Isiah Pacheco with former Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker, who won Super Bowl LX MVP.
