The Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid have been together for 13 seasons, and has been successful throughout the entire tenure. This is the first time in more than a decade that the team will not be in the playoffs and there could be some changes to the team going forward. With tight end Travis Kelce potentially retiring and quarterback Patrick Mahomes recovering from a torn left ACL injury, the team will look different. However, Reid has officially discussed his intentions for the 2026 season and if he wants to remain coaching, so let’s take a closer look at what he said.
During Monday’s media availability, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid would discuss his coaching future and how he would like to remain with the team for the 2026 season.
“I think I’m coming back, right. If they’ll have me back, I’ll come back. You never know in this business, that’s a tough one. But I plan on it, yeah.”
It is going to be very unlikely that Reid will be shown the door for a rough season. He is officially under contract with the Kansas City Chiefs through the 2029 season at an estimated $20 million per season, signed in April 2024. With that type of salary and belief that he can get back to the heights that this team has had in the last half-decade, it makes sense why he wants to remain coaching. Reid has been the coach of the Chiefs since the 2013 season and has recorded a 149-63 record as well as three Super Bowl champions and five Super Bowl appearances. The 67-year-old coach has been one of the top coaches in the league for a long time and it will be intriguing to see when he decides to step away from coaching and football in general.
