Andy Reid Provides Significant Update on Skyy Moore Injury

After a bit of time to rest and recover, the Kansas City Chiefs are back at practice ahead of their Divisional Round matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

With just a handful of days left until this weekend's playoff matchup, Kansas City is maximizing every bit of preparation possible. Andy Reid's team will be in somewhat unfamiliar territory on Sunday, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes will make his first road postseason start against a conference opponent. Orchard Park and Sean McDermott's squad await with a trip to the AFC Championship Game hanging in the balance.

In advance of Wednesday's practice, Reid provided an update on where his team stands from an injury standpoint.

Skyy Moore designated to return from injured reserve

Leading off his media availability, Reid said Kansas City is designating wide receiver Skyy Moore to return from injured reserve. This effectively marks the opening of Moore's 21-day practice window before the Chiefs have to make a decision on whether to activate him. Moore, who hauled in 21 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown during the regular season, hasn't played since Week 15 against the New England Patriots due to a knee injury. Reid hinted at solid progress being made just last week: 

Wide receiver Skyy Moore, placed on IR in mid-December with a knee injury, has a more promising outlook. While Moore does have to miss the Chiefs' first playoff game before being eligible to return to practice, Reid said he's "on track" and "doing a great job" with his ongoing recovery. Should Kansas City advance past Miami in the postseason, perhaps Moore has a respectable chance to play in the future. 

Elsewhere in the wideout room, Reid said he's taking injury situations with Justyn Ross (hamstring) and Kadarius Toney (ankle/hip) "day by day." Neither player was active in Saturday's win over the Miami Dolphins but both players will practice on Wednesday. They were limited participants to end the last week of practice. 

Derrick Nnadi, Cam Jones to miss practice on Wednesday

The only two Chiefs who aren't expected to practice on Wednesday are nose tackle Derrick Nnadi and linebacker Cam Jones. Both players suffered injuries in the Wild Card round. Nnadi is currently nursing an elbow ailment, with Jones dealing with a chest injury.

Nnadi, who was re-signed on a one-year deal during the offseason, played just seven defensive snaps on Saturday before leaving the game. In the event of him missing the Divisional Round, expect a committee of Mike Pennel, Tershawn Wharton and perhaps Isaiah Buggs, Matt Dickerson and/or Neil Farrell to replace some of his reps. 

Jones, on the other hand, didn't play a single defensive snap against Miami but had 10 on special teams. The Chiefs are better suited to withstand that potential loss due to their immense depth at linebacker. Jones played 81 defensive snaps and logged another 283 special teams reps in 17 games during the regular season.
