Andy Reid says he has decision to make on future after Super Bowl

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid could be coaching in his final NFL game on Sunday when his team plays the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports spoke to Reid before Sunday's game, and Reid did not completely shoot down retirement talk saying that he has a decision to make after the game.

“I’m not getting any younger," said Reid. "I still have a young quarterback. I have a decision I have to make after this game."

While that is a far cry from a retirement announcement, the fact that he did not completely eliminate the idea of it is what is stands out. Suggesting that it is even up for discussion is certainly eye-opening.

Reid, 65, has been a head coach for the past 24 years with both the Chiefs and Eagles. During that time he has been one of the league's most successful head coaches, compiling a 247-138-1 record in the regular season. Sunday will also be his fourth Super Bowl, leading the Eagles to the big game in 2004 and now three with the Chiefs. Reid and the Chiefs won it during the 2019 season.

He has coached the Chiefs since the start of the 2013 season.

This seems like the type of decision where the result of Sunday's game could end up playing a big role.

A win would not only give Reid a second Super Bowl ring but also potentially allow him to go out on top, something that every competitor wants the opportunity to do. Nobody wants to go out losing the Super Bowl.

If Reid did decide to retire, the Chiefs would theoretically already have a great in-house candidate to replace him in offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy who has been waiting for years now to get a head coaching opportunity.
