The Buffalo Bills are going to look much different when they step on the field in 2026. Not everyone is a fan of the changes they made.
For starters, the Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott and replaced him with former offensive coordinator Joe Brady. ESPN’s Seth Walder understands Brady’s connection with quarterback Josh Allen. But he wonders what Buffalo’s defense will look like.
“The Bills haven’t had a great defense on paper, and the defensive-minded McDermott could have been getting the most out of those players,” Walder wrote. “So, what happens now that Buffalo doesn’t have him?”
The Bills went on to acquire wide receiver DJ Moore for a second-round pick in a trade with the Chicago Bears. Based on Moore’s recent production, Walder thought that was on overpay.
“While Buffalo needed help at wide receiver, the price was substantial considering Moore is coming off back-to-back disappointing seasons in Chicago,” Walder wrote. “The Bills also paid draft capital for the right to take over the bulk of his contract — paying him $24.5 million in each of the four remaining years of his deal.”
Buffalo has made the playoffs every year since 2019. However, they have failed to reach the Super Bowl in that span. The franchise decided it was time to make changes, rather than continue on with what they have.
Brady will need to prove himself as a first-year head coach. As will Moore serving as Allen’s WR1. But if the Bills are able to secure that elusive Super Bowl berth, all the doubters would be silenced.
