Antoine Winfield Jr. proves a major point to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Day 1 of training camp and it means big things for 2025

At this point last year, Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. had established himself as the league's top safety - both on the field and through his bank account.

Flash forward to now and the former Pro Bowler is looking to bounce back from an injury-riddled season that led to the least-productive year of his career. Training camp is the first step toward showing the Bucs and the rest of the NFL that he's back.

Well, so far so good. Based on reports from those who attended the first day of Bucs training camp, Winfield Jr. was flying around and making plays all over the field. Bucs Gameday's Logan Robinson detailed the moments and they included an "incredible" interception off a ball intended to Mike Evans, along with an INT on the very next play:

In other words: He looked like his old self and that means nothing but good things for the Bucs defense.

"It's just good to see him healthy," Todd Bowles told reporters after practice. "I'm not going to put too much into the first day [while] wearing shorts and t-shirts [and] getting acclimated. But he made some plays in shorts and t-shirts that I know he can make in pads. So I was just happy to see him moving around."

Bowles is right: don't read too much into what happens on the first day. However, it's totally logical to get excited about the fact he mentioned the plays Winfield Jr. made on Day 1 are plays he can make and has made in pads. That's a big step in the right direction and the Bucs defense will take a big step, itself, in getting back to its old ways.

Veteran cornerback Bryce Hall is also fully back from his devastating injury

Winfield Jr. wasn't the only Bucs defensive back making plays on Day 1 . Veteran corner Bryce Hall, who broke his leg back in September, had a nice interception off undrafted rookie quarterback Connor Bazelak during practice, per FOX Sports' Greg Auman.

Hall fractured his fibula and dislocated his ankle in the Bucs' season-opening win against the Washington Commanders and it ended his season. He was medically cleared back in February and it sounds like he's back on track.

That's big for the Bucs' cornerback depth, which should be a lot better in 2025 compared to last year. It's pretty much guaranteed he makes the 53-man roster if he continues to not only make plays, but provide consistent, quality practice reps throughout the rest of training camp.
