Are Injuries An Excuse For Bucs Losing Streak?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have dealt with their fair of injuries in the first half of the season, and while their 4-6 record makes it feel like they aren't in decent shape, in reality, they are.

With four of their six losses being by one score, the Buccaneers have given as good as they've gotten, and that's with a host of players out.

Mike Evans, Jalen McMillan, Chris Godwin, and Tristan Wirfs, just to name a few, have all missed time, yet the Buccaneers have been in close games.

But as Tampa Bay enjoys their bye week, which came at the right time, head coach Todd Bowles stated that injuries aren't an excuse for the team losing football games.

"We played some tough games the last couple weeks," Bowles said. "It's 10 games into the season, we're pretty banged up right now, but that's not an excuse to lose ball games. We got to correct the little things, so while they're taking that break and getting healthy make sure we watch a lot of tape, make sure we understand the preparation we need when we come back, and got to help each other out.

"We got to hold each other accountable, not just coaches but players have to hold players accountable, and they understand that when they get back.”

While Bowles is right, injuries aren't an excuse, but had the Buccaneers had both Evans and Godwin or even just one of the Pro Bowlers, then things might have been different.

But perhaps the best thing for Bowles is that despite not having a full arsenal of weapons on both sides of the ball, the Buccaneers have been in a position to win their last three games but failed to get the job done.

Now with the bye week being used to get players back healthy, Tampa Bay has a good chance to start to build something positive.

But you won't hear Bowles use injuries as an excuse for losing four games in a row, despite it being a valid reason why.
