Are The 49ers In Trouble With Jimmy Garoppolo?
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers thought Trey Lance would be the quarterback that would lead them through this season.

But, after Lance was lost for the season with an ankle injury in Week 2, Jimmy Garoppolo finds himself in a familiar position.

Garoppolo is now tasked with leading the 49ers’ offense for the rest of the season.

His first start of the season did not look very good as the 49ers only scored 10 points, with Garoppolo struggling to make anything happen.

Despite playing poorly in Week 3 the 49ers should not panic about Jimmy G.

He has led this team to the Super Bowl and NFC Championship during his tenure.

Also, he seems to fit in well with what Kyle Shanahan wants to do on offense.

This Week 3 loss looked bad, especially because the Niners fell to 1-2 on the year.

But, the more Garoppolo plays the better he should get.

Also, he is 6-0 in regular season games in his career against the Los Angeles Rams.

The team he will meet on Monday Night Football in Week 4.

The 49ers and Rams seem to be the two best teams in the NFC West and how they match up this year could determine who wins the division.

One thing the Niners must do on offense is to get their star players involved more.

Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk need to get more touches.

In Week 3, Samuel had 10 total touches (five receptions, five rushes) for 79 yards.

After being one of the best playmakers in the NFL last season, the Niners should be getting him the ball 15+ times per game.

Garoppolo has done a good job distributing the ball over the years.

While he is far from an elite passer, his ability to throw the ball accurately in the short and intermediate areas of the field.

For the 49ers, the main question is how far can Jimmy G take them after a trip to the NFC Championship last year.

Are the 49ers Super Bowl Contenders?

The 49ers have had a really good roster for years and that seems to be the case again in 2022.

Their defense is loaded with talent including Nick Bosa and Fred Warner.

Bosa has four sacks through three games.

The whole defense had plenty of fun getting after Russell Wilson in Week 3.

Plus, this defense has elite stats through three weeks.

They are allowing only 12.3 points per game and 227.0 yards per game.

Both of those numbers are in the top three in the NFL.

The only question mark on the whole roster is the quarterback.

If Garoppolo can return to the form we have seen in the past this team is a Super Bowl contender.

Playing in a weak NFC, whichever team is playing the best late in the season can win the conference.

So with an experienced roster with postseason success, it would be foolish to think the 49ers could not compete for a Super Bowl.

This offense has also been one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL in recent years.

Even while losing running back, Elijah Mitchell, the team has a next-man-up mentality at that position.

It will be interesting to see how this team plays as the season goes on, but the play of Garoppolo will directly impact how far they can go.
