Marvin Harrison Jr.‘s time with the Arizona Cardinals is coming to an end. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team is finalizing a deal to trade the young wide receiver, though no team has mentioned at this time and a deal will not be completed until after Sunday’s games.
Harrison was a sensation during his time at Ohio State, and he was selected as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. His time in the NFL, though, has not gone according to plan.
He caught 62 of his 116 targets as a rookie in 2024, hauling in eight touchdowns in 17 games. Last year, he was limited to 12 games due to injuries and caught 41 passes for 608 yards and four touchdowns.
This season, Harrison has struggled to fit into the Arizona offense. He has played in four games, but has just five receptions on 12 targets for 85 yards and one touchdown. Trade buzz had been building around him all season.
The Cardinals starting quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, is averaging just over 204 yards per game through the air. His go-to receivers have been Michael Wilson and tight end Trey McBride. Wilson has 25 catches for 258 yards and a touchdown this season, while McBride has 33 catches for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
Harrison’s best game of the season came in Week 3, where he caught three passes for 40 yards in a 36-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. In Week 2, he was held without a reception on one target.
Last week, Harrison was targeted four times but brought in just one catch for 12 yards. The reception did go for a touchdown, but it still left everyone wondering if the young receiver’s time with his first NFL organization could be coming to an end soon.
Where Harrison is on the move to is currently unknown. According to Schefter, the team informed him he will be inactive for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions while the details of the deal are finalized.
Harrison broke out in 2022 as a sophomore at Ohio State with 77 receptions, 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning All-American honors. He earned the same honor in 2023, where he finished fourth in Heisman voting after bringing in 67 catches for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding another score on the ground.
The Cardinals are just 1-3 on the season through four weeks. They’re entering the most challenging part of their schedule, beginning at 4:25 PM on Sunday against the Lions.
