Arizona Cardinals Sign Former Jaguars Wide Receiver To 1-Year Deal
Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Cardinals are adding offensive weapons to their offense. Last season, the wide receiver position was one of the worst in the league. They began to remedy this situation in the NFL Draft by taking Marvin Harrison Jr., the top wide receiver of the class. The team wasn’t done adding weapons for Kyler Murray. Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones has signed a one year deal with the Cardinals.

Arizona Cardinals Sign WR Zay Jones

Zay Jones has drawn a lot of interest around the league. He reportedly had visits with the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tennessee Titans this week but ultimately chose the Arizona Cardinals. Jones has spent the last two years in Jacksonville and has been a productive member of the offense.

In the two years as a Jaguar, he had 1,144 yards and seven touchdowns. While he was never the focal point of the offense, he was a reliable piece of the Jaguars’ offense. Harrison Jr. will be the WR1, and now there is a solid veteran behind him. Jones has the ability to play outside or in the slot, which gives the Arizona Cardinals flexibility.

2024 Outlook

By no means do I think the Arizona Cardinals are going to be good next year, but I do think they will be fun to watch. Kyler Murray is always good for a few highlight plays per game. Now that he has an elite receiver to throw to, the offense could have an easier time moving the ball. It isn’t just in the passing game where there is optimism. The team drafted Trey Benson, an explosive back out of Florida State, to play with James Connor. Paris Johnson had a promising rookie season as well and will help solidify the offensive line.

The Arizona Cardinals have some potential franchise building blocks. While Zay Jones isn’t one of them, he brings a veteran presence to the team, which will help in 2024. Can the Arizona Cardinals play spoiler in 2024?
