Arizona Cardinals: The Arizona Cardinals Reveal their Plan at Quarterback for Week 10.
Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Cardinals might be getting their starting quarterback back this week. Head coach Jonathan Gannon announced that Kyler Murray will likely be the starter in Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons. It will all depend on if everything works out in practice this week. If he suffers a setback during practice, expect Clayton Tune to get his second straight start.

The Arizona Cardinals’ QB has been out since December.

Murray hasn’t played a game since he suffered a significant knee injury in December. He suffered a torn ACL in Week 14 against the New England Patriots on Monday Night.

Murray was placed on the physically unable to perform list to start the 2023 season. Arizona designated him for return on October 18.

How has Arizona addressed the quarterback position?

Arizona drafted Clayton Tune in the 5th round, 139th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Arizona traded a 2024 fifth-round pick in exchange for Joshua Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick on August 24. Dobbs ended up winning the starting job on short notice. Clayton Tune started the season as Dobb’s backup.

Dobbs started the first eight games of the season with a 1-7 record. He was 167/266 for 1,569 yards, 62.8% completion percentage, 5.9 yards per attempt, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also ran for 258 yards on 47 carries and three rushing touchdowns.

Arizona traded Dobbs to Minnesota.

Arizona traded Joshua Dobbs and a conditional seventh-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a sixth-round pick on October 31.

Jarren Hall got the start for the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9. Hall left the game with a concussion, and Dobbs finished the game. Dobbs led an amazing comeback over the Atlanta Falcons. He was 20/30 for 158 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also ran for 66 yards on seven carries and one rushing touchdown in their 31-28 victory.

Clayton Tune got his first career start in Week 9.

Arizona decided to sit Murray for one more week and start Clayton Tune instead. Tune struggled in his debut. He was 12/21 for 62 yards and two interceptions. He also was sacked seven times in their 0-27 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

What does Kyler have to lose?

Playing Kyler is a great idea because he gets a chance to prove that he can be the starting quarterback moving forward.

Currently, Arizona has the 1st pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. If Murray doesn’t play well and prove he is capable, expect Arizona to move on from Murray and draft his replacement.

The 2024 quarterback draft class will be loaded this year. The list includes Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr, Jayden Daniels, and more.
