Arizona Cardinals’ Zay Jones suspended for first 5 games of 2024 NFL season

The 2024 NFL season for the Arizona Cardinals will have to start without Zay Jones, one of their most recent wide receiver acquisitions. The NFL has suspended Jones for the first five games of the season due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy. This suspension is a result of a domestic abuse allegation that dates back to November 2023, when Jones was taken into custody for allegedly hurting his child’s mother. Even though the NFL conducted an inquiry and decided not to press charges earlier this year, disciplinary action was nonetheless taken.

Jones, an eight-year NFL veteran, played two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Cardinals in the summer. Jones participated in nine Jaguars games in 2023, hauling in 34 receptions for 321 yards and two scores.

Though he is projected to be a depth option behind receiver Michael Wilson and 2024 first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr., his absence creates some doubt for the Cardinals wide receiver room ahead of the season.

Arizona is scheduled to kick off their season on September 8 against the Buffalo Bills. Jones, along with that game, will miss matchups against the Rams, Lions, Commanders, and 49ers.
