Arizona Uber driver suing Jameis Winston over 2016 incident
Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

As Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston prepares to sit out the final game of his suspension this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the former No. 1 overall pick is facing yet another legal issue.

According to Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times, Winston is being sued by the Arizona Uber driver who claims that he assaulted her back in 2016. This incident itself is what led to Winston being suspended in the first place.

“She is unimpressed by his continued lack of honesty or awareness into his behavior,” the woman’s lawyer, John Clune, said in a statement. “Maybe a more direct financial penalty will get his attention. He needs to learn from this and have some genuine insight or pay the penalty.”

The suit claims that Winston grabbed her crotch in the drive-thru of a restaurant back in March of 2016, more than two years ago. Winston has not been charged, but did release an apology after his suspension was announced.

This suit was filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona and doesn’t provide much more details than what we already knew. Though, it’s now something Winston and his team will have to deal with. Of course, that’s unless the quarterback comes to terms with the complainant prior to this going to actual trial.
