Ashtyn Davis Injured at Practice; On Crutches in a Walking Boot

The Dolphins’ injuries continue to pile up, especially in the secondary, where Artie Burns is out for the season, Kader Kohou is down with an undisclosed injury, BJ Adams is in concussion protocol, and now Ashtyn Davis was injured at practice on Tuesday.

He went down on a play and was heavily limping on his way to the sideline. And he is currently on crutches and in a walking boot.

Davis was signed by Miami back on March 13th and is expected to have a role as Miami’s 3rd or possibly starting safety.

If Davis is down for an extended period of time or possibly lost for the season, Elijah Campbell, Patrick McMorris, Dante Trader Jr (who is also currently injured), Jordan Colbert, and John Saunders will be expected to play a larger role on the team.

Miami may also look at the free agent market to add another safety, as there are a few who are still unsigned.

Davis will be 29 in October and is a former 3rd round pick of the NY Jets in 2020.

He has played in 69 games, has 22 starts, and eight career interceptions.

The injuries just keep coming to Miami’s secondary, which, on paper, was the one position group that couldn’t afford to lose any bodies.

Being that it’s only July, Miami has time to add some capable players to the group, and they will need to.

The Dolphins just re-worked the contract of Minkah Fitzpatrick over the past few days to give him a small pay bump this year.

Fitzpatrick is the only proven player in this secondary who has any real experience as a full-time NFL starter.

Ifeatu Melifonwu, the other expected to start at safety, is on the Non-Football Injury List and is unable to practice at this time.
