Unlike most NFL owners, Arthur Blank is widely popular among football fans because of his generosity with family-friendly concession prices.
As all NFL fans know, most teams usually charge outrageous prices for food and beverages. A single beer at various NFL stadiums will cost more than a 12-pack at your local Walmart. Even bottled water can cost $6-8 at some venues.
Since the Falcons moved into Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017, the club has offered extremely friendly concession prices. Arthur Blank kept those reasonable prices for the 2025 national championship game between Notre Dame and Ohio State.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be one of the venues used for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Though Blank could easily bump concession prices for a much larger profit, he’s not backing away from his generous act.
During an interview with WSB, Blank said that concession prices will remain the same for the FIFA World Cup:
“Fans give us their energy, their time, their passion, their resources, their families, whatever it may be, and we need to honor that in the truest sense of the word, whatever we can. We can’t always control what happens on the field, what happens on the pitch, but we can control the fan experience.”
If only more sporting events and venues would offer prices as reasonable as those of the Falcons and the Masters tournament at Augusta.
It’s hard for most professional sports teams owners to be well-liked by their own fanbases. But Mr. Blank is the type of person that most owners should try to be like.
No, the Falcons haven’t had much success on the field since their run to Super Bowl 51. But he’s a hands-off owner and lets his staff do their work. In contrast, look at how the New York Jets (Woody Johnson), Cleveland Browns (Jimmy Haslam) and Dallas Cowboys (Jerry Jones) function these days withs hands-on owners.
As an owner who genuinely cares about his fans and players, it would sure be nice to see Blank celebrate a Super Bowl victory with the Falcons one day. The Falcons hired Matt Ryan as their new president of football, Ian Cunningham as GM and Kevin Stefanski as the head coach.
We’ll soon find out if those changes pay off.
